Been busy patching sheet metal and getting the car ready for body work and paint.

The passenger fender was quite a challenge. I had to replace the inner air duct sheet metal as well as replace and old poorly done patch on the lower part behind the wheel. I decided to replace the front of the fender at the factory seam to take care of a rusted area below the headlight and many dents and a few tears.  That was quite a bit of work welding it in and I'm not sure if I would do it that way again.

The rear fender also needed a patch in the front lower part. Definitely a challenging piece to make.

And before you ask about the two tone paint, yes I ran out of grey epoxy primer so I used some leftover green!  Just had to put something on the bare metal to keep it from flashing.

I'm taking the car in for body work and paint in the next week and I'm pretty excited!

The upholstery guy had an opening in his calendar so I dropped off the seats and door panels.  He jumped right on it and is probably going to be done around Christmas.

This is awesome! Thanks for sharing the progress. I've been dealing with similar fender issues on my 49 Conv. project. Your body shell looks beautifully clean, I'm assuming you didn't have to do any work to the inner fender wells?

Good luck with body work and paint! This is very exciting to follow along

Thanks Mike
I ended up making that fender patch in 3 pieces.  That compound curve is tricky but I learned quit a bit!
There was one small spot on the driver side and three spots on the passenger side inner fender well. All things considered I'm pretty happy with how clean this car is.

  Daniel ,
Your ride is starting to come together.  I am very impressed. My 46 coup was no where near as ruff as your rag top.  Could you confirm with me that you need the chrome block around the radio buttons that is screwed to the radio case? Not the face plat that attaches to the dash face. I have both but my car is a series 61 so the later would not work for you.
Keep up the nice work, Tim Walker

It's been a while since I've updated but most of the car is painted and I'm slowly reassembling it

Seems like everything needed to be gone through and repaired in some way. The power window switch had a broken stud so I made another.

Made a die to stamp out the rocker support that was completely rotted away

I can't wait to see the final result!

Its amazing that mice could live in the crankcase with dirty toxic oil.
