Its appears the resonators have been removed from my '53 Caddy.  The newer systems seems to be in good shape with the exception that the tail pipes and some perforations which I plan to replace.

Here are my questions;

I assume that removing the resonators was probably a very common occurrence when owners were replacing the exhaust system on their caddy's.?
Should I be concerned about this?
Will it change the way the car sound significantly?  and can you purchase the tail pipes when you no longer have the resonators?

Carl,

When I replaced the exhaust on my 53 coupe, I didn't go with the resonators at first. Without them, I thought the car sounded a little loud. Not exceptionally loud, but louder than I thought it should be. I bought a pair of aluminized resonators from Classic Exhaust and installed them. They mellowed the sound slightly, which I am happy with. Seeing that your going to relace the exhaust pipes, I recommend using stainless steel or aluminized. A ton of water from condensation collects in these systems, especially from the mufflers back, and will cause regular steel pipes to rot out sooner than you think. And yes, you can get the exhaust pipes either way, with or without resonators.
