On this age of the owner relating to age of classic car, there does not seem to be much of a strong correlation.  The rule of age of car plus 13 to 16 is about right for me, just off a little (I'm ten years older than my car).  I see a lot of 50's cars owned by 30-39 year olds on this post.  This was a good topic.  A lot of people with 50's/60's cars in their signature who scolded me for radial tires I thought were older than me, but they were younger.  It is great to read about all these younger people in the hobby.

For me, 1970 was a banner automotive year.  Superbirds, Trans Ams, Z-28s, Challengers, Cudas, Boss 429s, Hemis, AMXs and of course a nicely optioned convertible deville.

ahhhhhhhh........

My grandparents bought a new 77 Cdv. Fire engine red, white leather and white top........ I was hooked.
Saw our 70 at a retirement home. Red with white top.
Nothing special about the 70 other than we came across it....... And could afford it. I have always been partial to the late 60's/early 70's tho so this is perfect!!
I am 46. Our 70 was 'born' the 3rd week of october,69..... So was my wife.

44 here. I'm glad to see the range as well and also glad to see this is a hobby some guys do into their 80's.  I'm also selfishly pleased to see there are some young guys (like myself) that are into the older Cadillacs, so the demand stays up and my cars don't become "worthless" because no one is interested in them anymore.

I wonder how many people buy cars made in the year they were born... A friend of mine is turning 60 this year and is looking to buy an 1956 caddy.

I'm 2 years older than my 76 Eldorado.

jock82

I am 70 years old.  I bought my first Cadlllac at 25 years of age in July 1970. Kept the car until it was in an accident in 1975, wish I still had it. I had planned on keeping it forever.  Bought a 76 Olds 98, still have it.  Everthing after that has been Cadillacs.  I was hooked on Cadillacs at age 12, first one I ever rode in was 57 Fleetwood.  I waited until I was 25 to get my first car, the 70.  I have 3 Cadillacs, they are newer 89, 94, and 2009, but I like the older ones much better, particularly the 67-70 Fleetwoods, de Villes , and Eldorados, but then again I think those 71 - 74 Eldorados are also nice, any Cadillac from 1900 - on  is OK.

Born in '64 but my favorite years are 59-62 and 77-81.

The subject of owner age vs vehicle age had been discussed in an article in Old Cars Weekly some time ago.

The general observation at the time was that vehicles were a few years +/- less than the age of their owners, on average.

Well folks, I turned 66 in December.

I purchased my first Cadillac, a 1973 Eldorado in May of 1973.
I just secured a job with a major company and after a few months work
I ordered a Dynasty Red '73 Eldo coupe from the factory.  I recall it
stickered for about $10K at the time and  my annual salary was $9K so
I figured  - let's go for it.

By the way, I still have the car and have maintained it in original
condition for all these years.  It has just 58,000 miles on the clock.
I drive it to our local shows.  It's good enough to win in Primary
at a GN.

When you're young and not married with a family and no
responsibilities, you can do crazy things - and I'm glad I did!!

If the average age here is around 55 and classic enthusiasts are commonly interested in or own cars around their own age (let's say 5 years plus or minus) then Cadillacs between 1956 and 1966 should be at peak popularity right now.  Others here have suggested it was a person's age plus 13-16 which would make cars around 1974 to 1977 peaking in popularity.  Considering both ranges, it would be cars between 1956 and 1977.  Seems about right, I guess.

Got a few numbers besides what is posted here.  A total of 77 members. Not a real good statistical sample, but enough to satisfy my curiosity.

Only if you made the assumption that current membership remained fixed for 10 years.

The Message Board is a very small sampling of the true CLC membership.

I'm 46.  Joined the CLC in '93--same year I bought the '57.  I've been around or owned Cadillacs since I was 3.  I became a Life member about 6 years ago.

I'm 75 and my Cadillac is 66.  My Dad bought me my first car, a '41 Ford V8, when I was 15 and it was just a used car, and I bought my '49, the only Cad I've ever owned, at age 44.

I'm a '49 model, which makes me 66 years old.  I wanted a 1949 Cadillac, but ended up with a 1950 model.  My 1966 Eldorado came off the assembly line just a few weeks before I got my driver's license in the spring of 1966, though it didn't become mine until 1994.
