Title: 1973 Deville Engine Question
Post by: Cadillac Jack 82 on November 01, 2017, 08:42:37 AM

Guys:

Quick question.  Did the 1973 Cadillac Deville ever come with a 500 CI engine?  I have a friend who's looking at one that's up for sale and the owner says it has a 500.  I thought these cars had a 472??

Only Eldorado got the 500 70-74.   75, 76 everything got the 500 but Seville when it came out.   Even the commercial chassis got 472.

What they may be looking at is the emissions sticker which has a big 501 or 502 on it.  Most people don't read further to see just below that where it says 472 CUIN.    If that was what they were reading it does seem odd that they would not be calling it a 501.

70-76 all used the same block thats casting number ended in 5200.  Only crank and pistons were different which makes them hard to identify from the outside especially as time goes on and things get swapped and or rebuilt.
