1960 Carter Gasket

  I was looking at my carb gasket today while still waiting for my engine to be rebuilt. Hope 2 wks more. The thin cardboard gasket on the right was on my car. The 3 others were on a 60 manifold that I had in garage, all 3 were on it. The second from the left is a thick rubber like gasket, and the far left thin metal. Which should I order for my carter.

Carter needs the thin metal shim. Then there is the thick phenolic spacer, and two fiber gaskets.

There is an article in the self starter from a year or two ago that talks about this stack up.

Engine #06K56705 Also there are 2 groves in the manifold carb sits on top. What are those,,,see pics

From the manifold up it should be gasket , thick spacer , gasket , thin metal plate , carburetor.

I did not have a carter, so i do not have the tin shim.

Yes thanks Chewii I did open it, I will read it. Heres one. If I had only the thin cardboard one and I raise the carb 1/4 in or so. Im thinking my TV rod will have to be re adjusted. Also my car ran ok with just that gasket

I had a spare tin shim that I did not need from my parts car. I have it away in a previous thread to someone in Chicago. I don't know if he took it just for a spare or if he needed it. Maybe he can reach out if he wants to make it available.

The phenolic spacer I think you need to hunt down an original. I don't know if anyone makes a new one.

My gaskets I bought a felpro set.

Unfortunately my conversation with whoever I gave my Carter shim to was in the lost era on the forum. I don't know who I sent it to.

It was me you set the shim to and I used it. I think this one will work.

 Thats crazy thats 200 my money. Maybe I will just put one of the thin gaskets on. Thats how my old engine was and no problems. Unless someone can tell me why I shouldnt.

I have a spare one of these you can have that has a small crack in it. I was going to seal it up with some exhaust sealant, but then my parts car had a good one so I did not. I probably have two spare gaskets you can have as well. Just missing the tin.

I gently pried open this crack. Then worked high heat sealant on all four sides into the crack. Then clamped the sides closed and cleaned the surfaces. I left a layer on the inside edge that should make a barrier. I will let this dry up then get into the mail hopefully Friday.
