Title: 41 Cadillac: air bubbles in glass bowl
Post by: Bill Podany #19567 on July 18, 2009, 11:34:31 AM
My 41 Cadillac when hot has air bubbles in the fuel filter glass globe.  What causes this condition; is the fuel boiling or is it air leaking into the fuel delivery system?  Is this harmful to the car? There is no fuel leaking out of the bowl, but might this condition cause engine fire?  Any suggestions to correct this condition are greatly appreciated.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vapor_lock

My 49 vapor locked coming over Lovelock Pass, Colorado in 1986. We used the wood cloths pin trick on the fuel line. Not sure if it helped but we made it after it cooled down.  Use the search feature above Bill. Lot's of posting on this problem.

Hi Bill: As Jeff said go to Search at top of this page and put in Fuel Vapor Lock and you will see many postings on bubbles, vapor locks and electric pumps. Bubbles when hot and vapor locks are the nature of the beast with modern day fuels.
