1939 6127 grill

I just got my grill back from the platers and I can't remember if it was painted black between the ribs ( I think it was).
The hood side grills are painted black, but I don't know if it was black originally or if someone did it along the way.
If it gets painted, does any one know of any tricks to make this job easier and better.

I did my '40 grill by spraying it from behind with flat black and then cleaning off overspray in the front with a cloth dampened with lacquer thinner.

Hi Don,
The Autheticity Manual said the 1940 grill is black on the top of the ribs but it doesn't say anything about the 39,
I think it should be black also on the 39. It doesn't look right with the chrome ribs (to much chrome, no definition).
I would like to know for sure. I would like to hear from someone that has a 39.

Paint it black in between the bars. My mistake. I did those sketches many years ago for the Self Starter and no one ever mentioned it !
