1968 steering column repair

Im trying to repair the steering column in my 1968 Cadillac
DeVille.Im having problems with the turn switch indictator.
The lever is sloppy, Ive changed the signal cam but I have
these two small strips of light gauge steel and cant
remmeber where they go. (had to leave the job for a couple
of days). My manual dose not show these two peices.
Is there any info out that will help with the repair.

Those sound like what is the return spring for the lever. Im going from memory here, but Im thinking they go under the cam, vertically in a slot. They are held in the middle and the ends are free. The bottom of the springs return the lever from a left turn, and the top end returns it from a right turn.

You changed just the return cam on the turn signal switch? I would like to hear how that works out for you when you get the springs back in place.
