Title: 1957 Eldorado Brougham
Post by: Jeffrey Klinner on September 04, 2007, 07:59:16 PM
As I get deeper into #258, I find I have more questions and need some help.   Does anyone know if the power vent window motors are specific to the Eldorado Brougham or were they just parts bin pieces?   Is there a tool specific to this car for pulling the door handle?  Any insight would be helpful.

Thanks!
Jeffrey

Hi Jeffrey
I know the part numbers are different for the Brougham's, even from 57 and 58.  The difference between the 57 and 58 is the wire harness connector was changed were it connects to the door harness, no big deal.  The Brougham harness has a long wire lead on it, and I'm betting that is what makes the regulator motor different, but that is a guess.  I've seen pictures of the normal Caddy units and the harness is shorter.  But before you replace, remove the unit and take it apart.  The white lithium grease gets hard and freezes the units.  If you are careful and clean the unit and reload with new grease, your old unit may still be OK.  I have some pictures, I think, of when I went through mine.  Please contact me if you want.
There was a special tool to remove the inside door handle.  Look at the photo and the brass ferrule is what you need to hold while unscrewing the knob (turn the knob with your hand) and keep the ferrule stationary.  The keeper clip is what holds the ferrule to the handle mechanism
Good luck, and if you have questions, please contact me.
