Title: Reveal Molding, 1974 [Coupe de Ville] Cabriolet Rear Window
Post by: Tom Hall 7485 on May 04, 2009, 04:02:09 PM
1974 Cabriolet (half of the top covered in vinyl) - At the beginning of the model year,
the molding around the backlight (rear window) has a little chrome to outline the window
but also has a painted and textured portion.  Was this style used throughout model year
1974
for the Cabriolet?  It wasn't for the 1975 Cabriolet, which is why I ask.  If I am not
mistaken, the reveal molding for the '75 Cabriolet is not painted or textured; it is a bright
stainless molding an inch wide and wider along the bottom edge.

I had a '75 Sedan DeVille and its rear window molding was as you describe; chrome on the inner edge and vinyl texture (painted to match the vinyl roof) on the outer portion.  On my '76 SDV the molding is chrome on the inner edge and smooth painted on the outer portion.  Both these cars came with a vinyl roof, so I don't know what they did on models without a vinyl roof; maybe these were plain chrome.  I know earlier 70's models had all chrome moldings.

Hope this helps.
