Title: Question: Overall width of 1937 and 1939 rear-axel assemblies the same?
Post by: Stinson on October 16, 2012, 08:51:51 AM
Hell,
I need to know ASAP, is the overall width of 1937 and 1939 rear-axel assemblies the same for the model 75 large series?

I believe the 1937 7519 is the same as the 1986 Chevy half-ton truck but need to know if the 1939 7519 is the same.

Thank you,

Yes Ty, according to my 37 and 39 manual rear tread for both year 75 series is 62 and 1/2"   Also the same for 70 & 85 series in 1937 but it wont do you any good if looking for a higher ratio as their the same almost.
Does this mean you axle change is going "Pear shaped"?

Hello Steve,
Great to hear from you! If both the '37 and '39 Cadillac 75 series have the same 62 and 1/2" then I know that the 1986 Chev Half-ton Light Truck 3.42:1 will work to take the place of my 4.60:1 with very little modification as already applied to a '39 Cad 7519. Just new machined flanges drilled for 6 on 6 studs pressed to the existing flange and welded on the back side will add only 1/16" to the width. This will lower my RPM to 2,100 RPM at 60 MPH. Watch for something in the mail soon...............
Many, many thanks
