Title: Color code V 16 1939
Post by: schoppi14 on October 31, 2015, 02:49:24 AM
Hi. Can anybody tell me, what means the shortcut
Nat-Black-CR TR and the others at the wiring diagram?
In my car all cables are a typ of yellow, but I think they are original,
cause they are cottoncovered.

All these old wires were one colour with a tracer colour running through it Schoppi so the TR probably means Tracer but if you have an original 77 year old loom I would not advice doing anything with it but replace it. The fabric will be well disintegrated and you will be chasing bare wires forever. Having said that a authentic replacement loom could well have fabric also.

Hi Steve.
A good idea, but I´ll not disamble half the car to replace the wiring harness.
The car looks to be original exept the painting.
Also the fabrics are original with some mothholes, but its autentic for me,
cause I have some original cars and bikes.
Also rebuild a V 12 last time, so I know whats a lot of work it is to replace
the harness.
The other question, is there a possibility to get a complete harness for the V 16 1939
in correct colors and length?
Best regards from Bavaria

There are several company's out there this being one.

I don't consider it to be a hard task, perhaps thats because I have done around 20. Never had to disassemble half the car though.

Schoppi,
I used Rhode Island Wiring for my 1940 V-16 and am very happy with them.

Your original request as to what Nat-black CR TR means is a follows: Natural base color with black cross tracing on it.  With age all of these tracings disappear and are really hard to see.  The other example of what Cadillac used is all natural with no tracing on it, single color, single trace, single color cross trace and two color cross trace.
