Title: Rocker Arm Stand Question 1968 - 1973
Post by: cadman56 on November 05, 2015, 06:18:24 PM
I am going through my 1973 472 V8 engine.  When cleaning the rocker arms & stands I noticed a round impression on one side of each rocker arm stand.  I have not been able to find any information about this impression in either my shop manual or parts book.
Is there any significance regarding this impression?
Thank you,
Larry

Hello Larry,

My '67 was the last year for the 429 engine, but the first year for the pedestal mounted valve rocker arms.  The photo below shows that in '67, the pedestals were stamped I and E (intake, exhaust) implying that the pedestals are not perfectly symmetrical.  I would continue to research your question so that you get a definitive answer from some of this forum's 472/500 experts.  Also, check the modified forum or call the Cadillac 472/500 performance vendors (cad500parts.com, 500cid.com).

Larry,
The mark on your pedestals is most likely a hardnes testing "proof" mark.
