Title: Data Tag, '72 Eldorado
Post by: joeinbcs on January 08, 2016, 07:33:42 AM
I give up...thought I could find the codes on my data tag...seems like I've done this on my other cars...but I can't remember where to look.
I know how to decode the VIN, but not how to tell if my car was an early or late production model (anybody know?).
I know the interior and paint codes, but I can't figure out what the other numbers/letters mean.
Anybody know?
Thanks, Joe

Joe,
you've got a white Eldo coupe with an oxblood leather interior made in the second week of December 1971. The info is available on the Cadillac Heritage web site.

Thanks, Greg for the production date.
I'd already found the interior and paint codes.
What I want to know is what the next two lines mean:

12B A65 EY LFKI
C

I could not find this info on the Heritage site.
Thanks, Joe

Perhaps someone can chime in on what exactly the letters/numbers represent.  I think those codes were the same for several years........

hope this helps,

Heres a snippet from the 72 Cadillac ordering book.  Ive read in other threads that the codes within dont always 100% correlate to the built vehicle?  But  I too would like to decode my body plate, unfortunately I think it will ultimately require the build sheet/history from the GM Heritage site for $50 to fully deduce how our cars were optioned.

To segue a little bit, my Eldorado has everything in Group 8, how can determine if Group 8 was included in the original build?  Is that information gleaned from elusive (and in my case non-existent) build sheet?  My eldorado has most of the items in Group 9, but I dont see the individual codes for the items I do have on my body plate?
