Title: 1960 Eldo Biarritz conv top frame color
Post by: Hank66 on May 13, 2016, 11:20:23 AM
What color should the convertible top frame be? Currently painted body color. Is this correct or should it be black.

Paint Code 97 Champagne iridescent
Trim code 15
Top is code 3 - beige

Thanks!

From the mid 50's on the inside surface of convertible top material was a similar shade to the outside. In your case it was likely beige. The roof bows were painted a similar color, that is beige. This was true for all colors except black and white. Black always had a black liner while white could be black or light canvas color. All the current reproduction vinyl  top materials have black liners. If you're planning on taking the roof mechanism apart anyway, I would paint it black. Uniform color of the irons and liner looks more like the factory trim methods.

Possibly incorrect authenticity wise but think I agree with painting the top frame satin black in lieu of body colour in this instance. It looks bad when the top frame stands out in contrast to the black lining of the vinyl top. I worked on a triple Persian sand Biarritz and despite the top being correct the black underside clashed with the Persian sand coloured top frame and from inside was visually busy.
