Title: Information on Cadillac Dealerships of the Past
Post by: Greg Powers on August 13, 2016, 12:01:44 PM
This may have been covered before but I was wondering if there is a reference for locating past Cadillac dealerships.  So many of the smaller dealerships have been consumed by the big corporate giants and any signs of the older dealerships are lost. Other than old city registers, does Cadillac have any old records regarding dealerships in specific states? Do any of you have any insights? Thanks for any suggestions.

Greg,

I don't have an answer to your question. But I note that the Cadillac Owner's Manual for 1952 listed all cities by state where there was a Cadillac dealership.  I think the Data Book downloads that are available on the GM web site for each year up to 1974 might have similar information for other years. But of course this is not specific information about the individual dealerships. Your question is an interesting one!

Gregg,

There is two avenues.

1. Sign up on "mid-century Cadillacs" cad ill ikes

2. Pay $50 to the Gmmediaarchive.com    Give your info and they send build sheet.

I looked into this a week ago

I have a 1957 dealership listing but don't remember where I got it.  I think it was sent as an internal phone directory to all the dealers.

I am actually looking for a dealership from 1970. The information from the archives tells the destination city but the not the name of dealership. I have the original dealership sales paperwork for my 1954 and 1958. I know others have had this same question regarding their cars. - Greg

Best route there would be old phone books.

Many cities had a city directory listing businesses and more.  Check the libraries in the city of interest to see if they have one.

Greg, because you know the city where your car was delivered, I would suggest contacting the local CLC Region that covers that city.  The local CLC members are likely to know what Cadillac dealerships served the area in 1970.

Walter, the 1957 list of service locations is in the 1957 owner's manual.  Unfortunately, there is nothing comparable in the 1970 owner's manual.

One way is to simply contact me privately and I will check my database.

I googled the dealership and it lead me to a historical society in the town. The society had  pictures of the dealership from around the year the car got delivered to the dealership. I get emails from them all the time now. (historical notes)
