Eric can’t really tell which way the pattern runs on the cloth , I’ve tried to find a close up of that interior but no luck so far ,
Thanks

I don't know if it's much help but here's one more.
Professed to be "100% original". The cloth pattern appears
to run vertically as far as I can tell - if that's what you're
trying to determine.

I must say you picked one of the most difficult interiors to find!  ;D

Eric , maybe I’m wrong and they do run top to bottom ? Seems strange , think I might head down to the gm heritage collection tomorrow maybe they have  something on file . Thanks

If you look closely at the blue interior, I think you'll see the grain runs the
same direction which was my original impression even before I saw the Persian
interior which is clearly vertical.

I'm 99.9% certain this must be correct based on these two originals.

The death car ended up stored for many years in the old New Hampshire State Highway Department garage in Concord NH. This was about 4 miles from where I grew up. I never knew it was there.

I did speak to some old timers who told me the car was tucked into a corner in an equipment garage for many years.

Eric starting to feel that way myself but seems strange that the grain wouldn’t run side to side , same as the Cardiff leather grain . Hopefully the heritage has something conclusive .

The strange thing is I have an original piece of the bottom front seat and the cloth afternoon runs side to side , doubt they would run the seat bottom side to side and the tops up and down .

I saved photos of that car on my computer a few years ago from the website.

Check this one out, we can start the "blue fuel pump" debate again.

Ray,

I had a 59 dealer book a few years ago.  I sold it to a collector for $$$ but I took hi-res photos of all of the interior swatches.  It's won't tell how the grain was used in the car but may be of interest to you.

They are on an older computer and I have to find them and will email them to you.

Gentlemen,

The orientation of the cloth shown in the Persian Sand picture is correct. You are also correct that the orientation of the  leather grain inserts is side to side.

Don’t know anything about the pump but may not be original after sitting all those years ? The car was painted and freshened up after its slumber from what I understand .

When I spoke with the owner of the "Death Car", he did mention he had
done some refreshing of the engine paint and that everything was done
exactly has it had been finished originally which he photographed in case
any disputes arose. Two '62 and one '59 with untouched engine compartments
that I had also sported blue fuel pumps as well as traces of blue paint still
on the fuel lines in the area.

My belief is that fuel pumps were installed to the engines prior to being
painted and that they were originally blue. That said, some may have been
defective and replaced which would not be blue when they left the factory.

Death car was gone thru totally, under hood, paint and chrome
pump and oil filter are blue
have examined cars as low as 4k miles untouched

If big bill and Eric  think it’s blue than mine will be blue on my restoration . Gm Heritage is checking there files you see if they have a factory photograph of a cloth car , so hopefully they will give a definitive answer .

Ok now it’s getting really strange ! I contacted gm heritage and they supplied 2 photos with one going up and down and the other looks to be going side to side ??? Here’s a pic of the actual interior that I have and if you look at the upper area you can see the lines going side to side , so that brings possibility’s , we’re wary cars in one direction and later cars another ? Were certain colors one direction and others opposite ? But lithe piece I have though very rough clearly shows the lines going left to right
Not sure why but the site is rotating the pic of the original material the side is actually the top so the lower left shows the pattern which is actually the top of the photo was rotated correctly

the second one is a drawing not final production

I wouldn't place too much faith in the b&w image which is a pre-production artist's
rendering and aren't always reliable in determining what took place in actual production.

Even brochures often contain the disclaimer that artwork/photography is for illustrative
purposes only and may not reflect ongoing production changes.

The actual fabric shown is too deteriorated for me to make the determination of grain
orientation one way or another.

Anything's possible but it's doubtful different directions would have been used on different
panels. I would go with vertical wherever this material is used.

My 39K car (now has 44K)  had some traces of blue left on the bottom of the fuel pump when I replaced it.

Sent it out for rebuilding and of course it came back completely cleaned off. Oil canister is still blue with white letters on top. I will paint the original fuel pump if I ever put it back on. The Airtex still is working 5 years later.

Even the molded heater hoses, which I replaced but still have have traces of Cadillac blue on them.
