Title: I had a set of 1938 wooden rear arm rests duplicated
Post by: Mike Baillargeon #15848 on May 12, 2021, 05:32:34 PM
I had a set of 1938 wooden rear arm rests duplicated.....one of our club members, who advertises in the Self Starter, made these rear arm rests for me.....

The 1938 Convertible Sedan had a decent set in the car and the 1939 Convertible Sedan needed a set so, I put Allan Warner to work...he did a nice job on these!

He tells me that customers sometimes will send him just a bag of rotten pieces of wood that he has to put back together and then duplicate....so these were pretty easy for him to do....

He was telling me about sill plates, cowl structures, header bows....etc....he says he's fully stocked with all the hard and soft woods they used back when....I think the guy is a wizard with anything wood...

What are we going to do when we loose these guys??

Mike

Great work Allan. Looks like accurate reproductions.

No wonder those cars were expensive with all the work compared to a more recent convertible with stamped steel parts.

Not just convertibles.  All of the 60 Specials from 38 to 40 and the big cars of all styles had this.  I assume 41-60S had this also.  The 38 to 40 60S did not have the ash tray in the wood but it was still a complicated piece of wood work.
