Title: How far fan from rad in 1963?
Post by: greg on June 15, 2005, 10:33:05 PM
My fan seems far from the radiator. The engine compartment is real real hot as is rad after a voyage as short as 10 miles one way.  The rad looks ok itself- not evidence of corrosion and no serious tyne damage that I can see.  The fan looks to be about more than 6 inches away from the rad and there is no thermal clutch cause no A/C but there is that spacer on engine side of blade.  I also have the water control valve in line on the heater hose and am unsure if that needs to be there since there is no A/C.  Also, how can I trouble shoot to know if the water pump is functioning proper and also how do I figure if the cooling system has a clog etc?

Greg, start with a cold engine. Remove the rad. cap. As the engine warms-up, you will see the coolent flowing in the rad. from the engine.
Dont a clue about the fan.
Good Luck, Jim

Yes the valve belongs on the heater hose, it is for the heater.

Was working on my 64 today, 2 inches from fan to radiator about a 6 inch spacer from water pump pully to fan.
