Title: What the heck is this relay for?
Post by: MDEnvEngr on June 25, 2007, 10:10:33 AM
I have a 69 DeVille.  Under the seat on the drivers side, there is a relay.  There are some wires attached to it of course, headed into the cable bundle to who knows where.  What does this relay do...does anyone know?  Mine is hot, drawing current even with the key in the off position.  It may be the reason the PO had to install a battery shutoff to keep from killing the batteries.

I'm assuming it's not supposed to be hot, and the relay is shot.  Does anyone know where to get a replacement?

Thanks.

Bob,

Based on location it sounds like the power seat motor relay, and no it should not be hot. They are available NOS and used. Try Cadillac Tim at

G'day Bob,

I agree with Ralph.

But, before you go doing anything stupid, I would be disconnecting it, and then tracing the wiring back to the various joints to see where the problem is.

I am working on a '69 SDV, and whilst trying to locate the reason why the 6 way seat wouldn't work in the "front up-down", found that the Seat Transmission solenoid was burnt out, and hense, slightly skew-wiff.   There must have been a lot of current running through the solenoid coil to cause the problem, and as I now find out that the wiring has been altered, the Previous Owner could have had a similar problem.

Bad electrics have caused their share of fires.

Does a 69 Coupe? Deville have the electric release for the seat backs?  Or did that come in the 70's and only in the eldos?
