Thanks in advance.

Getting ready to repaint the hubcaps on my 1962 Eldo and am suspect that they were replacements and not the original color.  The car has a white exterior with red interior and the current color of the caps is red. With the red paint on the side trim at first it seemed to make sense.  However, after some web searching it seems the norm is based on exterior.  Anyone have the right answer so as to avoid all this taping and sanding again?

You are correct. The caps are keyed to the exterior body color.
