door tag restoration

anyone knwo of a way to clear up the identification tag in the door jamb? mines readable but after i painted my car it looks bad where its frosted over.

You can buy a reproduction tag at several places, like McVey's.

A jewelry store with a pantograph machine can re-engrave the original
information for you if you wish -- providing that your original still has
enough marking to be copied.

As far as cleaning it up, the factory info headings (not the stampings)
for serial number, etc. were screen painted on so they will not hold up
to much cleaning or polishing.

I didn't bother with all of that, bought a repro tag and installed it.

Interesting,  In the Corvette world, any tampering with a trim tag is grounds for disqualification at that show and bans the car from any future competition.

The trim tag is a stamped metal plate on the cowl.  This is different, it's a service ID tag on the driver's door jamb.
