What type of oil do you use for the shocks of a 1938 LaSalle?

JoeCeretti

Motorcycle shock oil works great.. or hydraulic oil as long as it has an anti foam agent.

Jack oil works as well.
If your seals have become hard you can also get jack oil with stop leak.

Do a couple of searches it has been discussed several times.

I think that 'Stop leak' only works to soften and expand rubber lip seals Fred.  The early shocks have only felt seals. Have you seen that it works on felt?

Steve, The original seals were / are leather.
I have used jack oil with stop leak on both my 40 LaSalles and it works quite well as long as the shaft is not grooved and the seal is intact.
I found out about  it 3 or 4 years ago on this forum.
