Building up a deville 67, got the ventilator window in, the window+motor, but now struggling to get the mirror in. I just can't get access to tighten the bolt And does the bolt sit in the front or the rear hole?
Driving me nuts. Thanks for your advice in advance, Tom

The driver's door rear view mirror assembly is inserted into the door from outside the car, rod first, through the large center hole in the door skin.  Make sure the gasket is in place.  With the mirror base flat and level on the door skin, Insert the long, large-head phillips screw with lock washer into the hole at the leading edge (front) of the door.  This screw engages the portion of the base with the threaded hole, that goes into the front-most hole on the door skin.

Tightening this screw will draw the mirror forward slightly, causing the "cleat" which is the portion of the base that went into the rear-most hole, to grip the sheet metal of the door and lock the mirror assembly into place.
