on a 1947 cadillac 346 flathead the specs say .030 to .070 dry lash
can anyone tell me how much over the .070 I can  go and still be safe ?

Too much lash & your lift & duration suffers. You can open the lash as far as you want, t just won't run worth a dam.

I would not think much more then .70. That is why the specs are .30 to .70. Your lifters we start to rattle and you will lose power as stated above. Have you checked everyone and what is the clearance that you have?
