Ive a friend who is doing a painting of a 54 Cadillac 2 door hardtop. The painting is based on a photograph (frontal) of a car her grandfather owned.

Shes trying to be correct in titling the work, and we dont know if its a Coupe Deville or a Series 62 Coupe.

Is there a way to tell looking at the car from the front ?

In short, no. The main difference between the standard coupe and the Coupe DeVille, was that the CDV had a small Coupe DeVille script on the sail panels behind the rear side windows and the CDV had a much fancier interior with chrome bows on the headliner. Otherwise, they were the same.
