the internals of my 1955 engine are too far gone.ie crank worn past being able to get bearings etc. i have a spare 390 motor from a 59 cadillac. will the 59 internals fit into the 55 block. i realise that the bore would have to done. (the whole engine will be reconditioned) i am hoping that it will that way the original numbers block will stay with my car.

331 and 390 feature different strokes (3-5/8 for 331-365s vs. 3-7/8 for 390) so at least crankshaft will not fit :( .

On the other hand, it would be interesting to know if 365 internals could fit into a rebored 331.

i guess it depends on the deck hight of the block. if you swapped all the 1959 engine internals to the 1955 block and the deck hights where the same and you bored out the 55 engine to 1959 size would it all fit. the major difference between the 331 and the 365 is the bore which gives the extra capacity and in 1959 a longer stroke was added to give the 390 capacity.
any engine experts out there have any idea.
