Has anyone ever had occasion to remove the accelerator pedal from a 1940 Lasalle or similar car? I have bought a repro rubber pad from Steele and need to install it.
It seems that it would be easier to remove the old rubber with the pedal assembly out of the car, but how does it come out?
Thanks.

The pedal should have a nut on both top and bottom against the floor. It would be impossible to remove the rubber without it out of the car. I did a 1941 pedal, and you literally have to cut the baked on rubber off with a razor blade. You also may find that you need to reinforce the metal as after sixty some years, many pedals have the short part of the u-shaped flange (cross-section) develop cracks and the pedal starts to "flop" back and forth due to the metal being weakened. Good luck and be careful with the razor knife. (Of course you also have to take out the cotter key under the car floor.)

Now that the job is done, thank you very much, Mr. Wheeler for your advice.
