According to my 1952 Shop Manual, the generator is polarized by momentarily jumping the "Bat" and "Gen" terminals on the regulator.  I assume this is done with the ignition switch off.  The manual is silent on the subject of polarizing the regulator.

Would I be correct in thinking that the regulator automatically gets polarized?  Does this operation polarize them both with one step?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I don’t think the regulator can be polarized.  The confusion maybe caused by the procedure being done on the regulator.

What is done by polarizing is magnetizing the generator so it will produce enough voltage to pick up the cutout relay in the regulator.
