The 55 I have been working on has no such part, the fader is in the tuning knobs on the radio itself.

The little control and panel shown is an aftermarket piece. Rear speakers were all the rage in the fifties, and as alreday has been said, the speaker fader is built into the radio WITH ONE EXCEPTION. Convertibles had no place to put a rear speaker until 1957, so the radios for 1955 had big red letters, rubber stamped on them: CONV, which was the special radio for convertibles, that had no rear speaker fader control.
