Will a 56 Cadillac headlight switch work in a 55 Cadillac ? Thanks

1955 Cadillac Fleetwood

Otto Skorzeny

They're model year specific. Knobs don't match.

The question is easier to answer in reverse. In the 1967 Master parts book ,55-57 headlight switches are lumped together. They all use switch 199 5064, which is the 1955 switch. The 56-57 switch is 199 5080.Will it work the other way? Warren

Warren,

The master parts list 1946-1958 shows two types of headlight switches for the 1956 a 199 5071 that was replaced by 199 5080 in 2/1/1957. The 1956-1965 part list indicates the 199 5080 was replace by 199 5064 in 4/1/1965 which this one was used in the 1955 models. So the switch by itself could well fit the 1955 if it is the 199 5080, other members may chime in to validate.

In 1957 the fog light control was located behind the headlight knob. Were there two different switches in 57, one for cars with fog lights & one for cars without, or did Cadillac put one switch in all 1957 cars regardless of whether you ordered the fog light option or not? James

The basic light switch is the same unit on all models with or whit out fog lights; these have an extended shaft to mount the unit. The optional fog light switch was an add-on to the basic light switch. The bracket is mounted in the front and the fog switch was then added.
