Does anyone know where this goes? I didn't remove it , it was in a pile of the car parts. It looks like it goes somewhere on the frame or underneath somewhere. It's for my 1940 9033

This is one of several "Splash Pans" that fit around the engine at the oil pan to chassis  level,

Not really as I dont have a model the same as yours but you usually have one on each side of the engine utilizing some of the pan bolts and a series of small bolts into the underside of the chassis. On my car theres a split pan just like the picture with that small bracket to span the exhaust. Get under there and see if they fit anywhere, a bit of trial and error.

Left side inner fender.  The small holes on the right side of the picture were for rivets to hole the rubber splash shield that goes around the shock.  The big holes where for hex head (3/8") sheet metal screws with big washers that go into sets in the fender.  This is not exactly the same has 38 and 39 which I am very familiar with but there may have been changes made for 40.  If not it might be for big series V-8 in 39 or 40.
