Hi,

Have seen some Caddies calles "Talisman," and don't know what that is.

Was it a model?  They look like any other 4 door sedan or a Fleetwood.

Thanks, Richard

The Talisman was the ultimate edition of the Fleetwood Brougham and was even more expensive than the premium d'Elegance option. It was available from 1974-1976. The interior of the Talisman was arguably the most lavishly appointed since the 1930s. In 1974 it had only 4 place seating with center consoles front & rear. Customers didn't like that so for 1975-1976, there was only one console in the front with seating for 5. The Talisman option was very expensive- around $2,900 or within a few dollars of a new '76 Ford Pinto.

By way of interest, the d'Elegance option began in the 1973 model year for the Fleetwood Brougham; 1974 for the deVille.

Mountain Laurel Pink, paint code #46- 1956 & 1957 Cadillac. I believe Mary Kay Ash of Mary Kay Cosmetics had something to do with the creation of the color.

Contrary to popular belief, Mary Kay had nothing to do with the creation of the color.  It was around since about 1953, was first applied to Cadillacs in 1956 and the same exact formula was used on Oldsmobiles in 1957 called "Desert Glow".  Developed for the 1956 deVille line, as the deVilles had matching Mountain Laurel interiors, the color itself as well as Mt. Laurel leather was available across the entire line, at least in 1957.  This was in addition to the regular series 62 convertible leathers on special order.

Mary Kay started in 1963, long after the last factory Mountain Laurel Cadillac rolled off the line.  She first used the color, or a derivative of it, in 1968.

Gentlemen,

Thank you for the explanation.  I had seen some postings on the forum and had no idea what they were talking about.

I do now , and once again, I thank you,

I remember these from the sales catalogs, which i still have.

The modern day equivalent to the Talisman option is the Platinum edition. ALL leather interior (incl doors and other panels), with suede alcantra roof & pillars, french stitched seams, olive wood dash, etc. It was available on DTS, but also on STS up through 2011 I think. The STS Platinum mandated EVERY option except the block heater and the summer tire performance package (it came with the all season tire performance pkg and chrome wheels). I have a 2009 STS NorthStar Platinum ed, and the interior is VERY nicely done; better than any other car I ever sat in - although  my Fleetwood Broughams had more room.
Regards,
"Cadillac" Mike
