When I took the bumpers off our coupe on Saturday to have them re chromed I found a curved steel plate behind the center medallion. Is that factory or an add on?
Only the front bumper had it. Was there one on the rear bumper also?
If so does anyone have one they would like to sell?
Thanks,
Lou Quirch

Lou:

The original factory bumper name plates had a metal back-up plate on them, and if I remember correctly there was some heavy paper in there also. I guess that this was tohelp keep the name plate from being dented. It didn't work very well.

Terry,
There were traces of some kind of paper.
Probably to keep it from rattling.
I Think the steel plate would protect it somewhat from totally caving in.
If I can fnd one I would like to use it.
Thanks for the reply,

Lou,

On my 38, as Terry indicated, it had the paper and metal backing plate. I believe it was a metal piece to act like spring steel, as Terry indicated, so that if hit it would protect the chrome plate on the bumper. I think I have the original paper with the plate somewhere. Can dig it up if you are interested.
