Will the 1967-78 wheels take the 1979-85 wheel covers for Eldorados and Sevilles(minus 1979)?

Also I haven't seen these before, what did they come on and where could I get a full set?

No. I'm almost certain of this. The experts will weigh in if I am wrong, and probably will do even if I am right.  :P

The original FWD ElDorados had a very large offset requiring a similarly bulbous wheel cover. Later generations were vastly different.

I recently saw a photo of a 76 Eldo on ebay with 85 wire caps on it.

I can't see how these would work.

I have a beautiful set of 71 Eldo caps if interested.  I'd sell them for $150.00.

The 66-78 style the cover grips the very outer edge of the rim, the area where a standard weight goes.   The 79-85 style is more typical where the covers grip the flat area just inside the rim.  Only unique thing about them is the budge out for the offset.  I believe this is the era that they started the center locking screw where you have the metal piece that goes over 3 of the lug nuts.

Im really not sure how you would put a later cap on the earlier wheel.  The offset is likely close enough but the later ones have that inch or more of area that goes into the newer rims that the old rims did not have so I would think they would just stand out too far.  I don't think you could modify it easily because that inset area is also where the spokes attach.

You also can't just swap wheels because one of the changes was from the 5" to the 4 3/4".

I have both sets of wheels and covers at my storage area if I get out there tomorrow I wil try and remember to look close.

Try this:

Go to a "recycling center" - junkyard, and test fit one of the 79-85 wheel covers to your car.

I'm pretty sure it will not fit.  The older wheel sticks out too far to allow the edge of the wheel cover to grab the rim.

Haven't had a chance to experiment with the later FWD cars, although I do have a cap off an '83 Riviera to test at some point.

Does anyone know anymore about the cap in the ebay listing?
