The fan I had was the biggest universal one my local parts store stocked.   I think it was a 16 or 17" from Hayden.  Its a popular brand that most stores carry.  It came with a plastic zip tie sort of thing that you shoved through the fins on the radiator then slid a clip on the inside.  Since its not for primary cooling you would not likely need it that close so maybe using regular zip ties to suspend it from other structures in front of the ac condenser would work.   You have to be  careful not to stretch it too much or the frame distorts and the fan won't turn.

I still have that fan, its now the primary fan in the wife's mustang.   The OE one died and I broke the blade trying to change the motor.  OE blade was like $50 used then I saw that hayden one collecting dust on the shelf.  It moves more air than the OE one did but its a small car with a small engine.   Don't know how they can claim that fan would cool an RV with a big block.

Could it be that you have a winter blend gasoline in the tank?  Winter blends usually have a lower flash point, so would be prone to boiling at 'summer' temps.  While I wouldn't discount the fact that you may have an old pump, the percolating gas in the carb would point me to the gas.

Something else to think about, and I'll mention it just because I don't know how your particular car is configured, but do you have a heat-riser valve in the exhaust?  If so, is it functioning properly?
