Hi, need a muffler for my 72 eldorado. Also a carpet set.dont need show quality , cost is a factor.
Also are carpet sets hard to install? Can the average guy do it or best left to professionals?
Thanks in advance,
Bill

I would get the muffler done at a muffler shop.

I recently replaced the carpet in my '70.  You'll need two people to get the front seat out and in.  I got mine at auto custom carpets / stock interiors.  I had fitment issues when the carpet had the mass backing, I sent it back and swapped it out for regular jute backing and it fit better, though not perfect.

You can spend about $200 to $250 or so just to buy the carpet, having it done is at least $1000.  I've installed carpet in several cars over the years, not too tough to do, but its a pain when the pre-molded carpet doesn't fit the curves like they should.

If you do it, don't glue it all in, it will be a PAIN to remove.  Just use a little spray glue on one side of where the carpet is to be set (not both the floor pan & the carpet) in strategic places to keep it in place.

What a better way to learn about your car than to take it apart and put it back together.

Do it!!

Try Classic Exhaust in Geneva, OH --- http://classicexhaustinc.com/
They advertise in the Self Starter (page 16 in the July 2015 issue) and have had good reviews from other members on this forum according to my use of the forum Search function.

Pain in the neck to do lying on your back especially if the system is rusted together.  Depending on your comfort level, you might buy the muffler (or whole system if it is old) and have an agreeable shop with a lift install it for you.

Having done it, I would opine that installing carpet is not all that difficult.  Hardest parts are:
As noted, a front bench seat is both heavy and bulky.  Takes 2 people
Getting the carpet to conform properly to the floor pan.  May want to have a steamer handy?
