I am researching the 1967 Eldorado before a step up and purchase one. It will be either a 1967 or 1968.
Can a 500/472 easily  replace a 429 in a 1967 Eldorado?
What issues would there be in swaping them?
Would it fit under the Eldorado's hood as this is an only year hood.

I would hope to have and use this Eldorado for many years and want to insure I can get parts 10 years from now.
I spoke to a friend this past weekend and said the 1967 Eldorado fuel pump is a one off, only for a 1967 Eldorado.
This is what I would like to avoid in the future. If I was to rebuild or swap the motor, I would rather replace it with a 500 for parts availability and I have lots of 500 parts and low mileage motors and tranny's laying around.

I am sure the 429 is a great engine, but maintaining it is my main concern.

I know its been done.   I think if you have a complete donor Eldo its not too bad.   If you don't have a donor there are little things that have to be done that can really add up pain in the butt wise.   I think transmission bell needs holes drilled.   If you want to keep the switch pitch may be worth the time but if you don't care just swap to a later one.    I think the CV flanges were different on the early ones.

Are you also changing to the single piston disc's?  That may be something to look into because I have heard pretty much everything related to the drums or early disc is getting difficult (and expensive) to find.   Maybe that will narrow down what sort of donor car you would be looking for.   A toronado would get you most of the parts too.

I think you will be Ok with a 429 and you will be able to get parts and keep it going one way or anther.  Yes you are right a 472 from 1968 would be easier, as that block (472/500) and many components were in production much longer from 1968 thru 1976, 9 model years and probably 2 million made (429, 4 model years probably 3/4 million made).

Antique car buying is more of an opportunity than a straight out search mission for most.

If you find a great 1967 Eldorado, I would keep it a 429, and if you find a nice 1968 Eldorado, then your good.  If you are uncomfortable with a 429, I would just limit the search to 1968 only.  It is not likely to be worth it to make the switch to a 472 in a 1967 Eldorado.  Plus the value of the 1967 with a non original engine will be diminished, which limits your options if you ever need to sell it.

Based on these answers, I will focus on a 1968 more so then a 1967.
