Location of Hard Boot when not in use in a '70's Eldorado

G'day all,

I have been having the discussion with myself, and cannot get a reliable reply.

Where in the trunk of a '70's Eldorado Convertible, especially a '72, but the rest should be the same, as to the factory-intended position to store the two hard boots for the convertible top when the top is up.

Are they simply floating around in their covers on the floor of the trunk, to be constantly shifted to allow for luggage?   Or is there a special place so they can rest out of the way, and be safe from movement when going around corners?

I am about to re-paint mine, and don't really want to reinvent a system of retainment.

Where were they placed when the cars were new?   And what instructions were given by the dealer in relation to them?

Thanks,

Bruce. >:D

Take a look at the two piece bag sets I sell on eBay.
They are great.
I usually keep mine in the trunk but you are right, there is no good place to keep them.
In two individual vinyl bags you can stow them behind the front seat on the back floor.

The one piece felt bag is hard to use and thee is nothing to keep them in the bag.

But, they look cool on the car!!

G'day Brian,

My wife made me up a couple of bags using an old woolen blanket, and Velcro to close off the ends.   Each one is in its' own fitted bag, but have yet to figure out where to stack them.

No problem with the roof down, but up, which the top is when I am touring, and in bad weather, I definitely need a place to put them.   Behind the seat is not an option as they get in the way of passengers.

And they are not ideal to try and store them in the top well as that could be dangerous in the event of a crash.

That's why there are always boots for sale on eBay and people looking for them.
They end up in basements, attics, on shelves in garages, and forgotten about when the cars are sold.
They either live in the trunk or somewhere else I guess.

Thanks Brian,

Looks like I will have to look deeper into the problem and come up with a solution.

Seems like it was the same deal for the T tops.   I just remember a vinyl like bag those came in.    A little less room to flop around in the F bodies but still a similar problem.  Worse I suppose because at least you could go without your hard boot in bad weather, you didn't want to be without your T tops.
