Hello from Texas,  I started the water pump changeout on my 54 Cad 331 today.  After pulling the water pump I noticed a lot of old grease and oil deposits on the cross member and on the block behind the water pump. Any ideas where it may be coming from. Should i go ahead and reseal something in that area now that I have access. ?    Thanks for anyones help or suggestions.

Likely the timing chain cover gasket and seal around the shaft.  Need to drop the oil pan to do a proper replacement.  It's one of those one thing leads to another repairs.

Thanks Dan,  I will reseal the timing chain cover and shaft. You are right ,I have found many things that I want to do to clean up the engine bay and engine since I've got it exposed. This little job I feel will turn into quite a project.  But thats why I love this hobby.  Thanks for your help!

It's not the project, it's the "Might as Wells" that kill you.
