I need the piece that holds  the float in place , not the needle. I don't know the part name. I drove the car 20 minutes and then let idle 10 minutes ran perfect. I shut it off and gas leaked from the carb base on both sides. when we rebuilt we found the float piece missing so we made one from wire. any one have one ?

You need to be more specific. Are you talking about the needle retaining clip, holding the needle to the float? or the pin that holds the float to needle housing?

Steve,
I think he means the float pin that goes through the float..... ???

If Bobby is right about the pin you could probably find the shaft of a nail that would fit when cut down. The originals has a serrated part at one end to stop it coming out but if your careful fitting it then it cannot come out once the two halves of the carb come together.  I probably have one but it would be a long time getting to you.

When we rebuilt we found the float piece missing.....

The rebuild kit usually has the clip along with a new viton tipped float needle (unless the float is solid) for use with ethanol fuel. Did you purchase a kit when you "Rebuilt" it?  ???

The clip is not necessarily needed as its function is to pull the needle down when the float drops and allow more fuel in.      I have seen many kits where the new needle does not have a hole in it for the clip. Nothing in there at all is probably better than a makeshift clip as that's what may have caused the flooding when the piece of wire attempted to come adrift and jammed the needle open.

You might give Larry Isgro Carburetors a call:

He just rebuilt a 4-barrel carb for me.
He might have the part you need laying around.
Note:  I don't think he uses email, so call him.

after taking apart I think this is whats happened. the piece we made , that runs thru the needle was bent down and the needle with the rubber tip rested in this low area, I guess flooding the carb? so I need this piece to be correct . thanks

If Steve runs into a snag on this, there are a lot of Stromberg AAV 'parts carbs' that run thru eBay for low prices. It doesn't need to be AAV-26 to get what you need for the float.
