Hi,

Can someone please tell me how you remove the stainless trim around the rear window. Is there a special tool? Trying to get the car ready for blasting. Is this the same for the windshield? I have the glass out.

Thanks for your help,

Percy

It has to be gently prized off. No easy way but gently. Find the join and tap with a wooden block.   In 41 it's fitted over a rubber seal. In 37 it is directly over the metal. Don't know what year they changed but many get damaged and replaced with a different screen rubber that does not require the chrome. Always sad to see it go.

Thanks Steve.

I believe it's directly over the metal for 1940 as the gasket is completely pulled out. I tried to pry gently but noticed it starting to deform so wanted to ask.

Is it actually stainless in 1940 Percy? My 36/37/38 cars are chromed brass.

Guess they changed around 1939 then. Wish they had done it sooner as it's a hell of a thing to get chromed. Like trying to chrome a rattlesnake.

What really helps is to take a heat gun and heat the thing up.  There is tar between the stainless and the body so it has to be softened up.  If you bend yours up I do have these.

Thanks for the replies.

Good to know you have these Brad and the heat gun is a good tip. I'll reply to the thread and let the forum know how successful I am and if there's anything to be learned.

Fingers crossed!
