Okay Bruce, I have the small brown gen light wire from the VR wired directly to the new Alt.  Also the Alt is wired directly to the +bat with new larger wire. Everything is working great. The light on the dash is off. To test the light I disconnect the light terminal at the gen while the car was running but the light did not come on. I assume the gen has to fail and somehow ground itself to light the light.   Thank you for your help !  I now have bright lights and a very happy battery.
