331 rebuild, 1951

1951 331 engine. on the teardown there was not a spacer behind the crankshaft timing gear. Should there be one? if so does anyone know the thickness?????

The last 331 I did was a 54 engine block and there was no spacer.
I will check my manual (motors M,to see if it has anything listed.

My 1935-55 Master Parts List has on page 152 an "exploded" drawing of a 1949 engine with the notation that the drawing is "typical" of 1950 through 1955 motors.  Behind the crankshaft timing gear in the drawing is a spacer.  On page 168 of the MPL the spacer is a "Crankshaft Sprocket Spacer" in Group No. 8.1544 and is listed as part number 145 1609 for 1949 to 1955 motors.

Thank you, exactly what I thought. Now to figure what the thickness is. I will most likely have to make one!
