1940 LaSalle Trunk Handle Removal

I cannot get my 1940 LaSalle Trunk Handle removed...have removed the 2 handle screws in the trunk, the screw attached to the rod for the license plate holder, the nut on the lever mechanism, and the 4 screws on the lever plate. It will not pull off. There must be a clip or other behind the lever plate that is holding it on but cannot see anything and very hard to see behind the lever plate. Can anyone help?

Probably held by the little sliding lever in the shaft that locks it. You have to turn the handle to find the slot in the lid where the lever will pass through. Theres no need to remove anything except the small nut in the centre of the lock mechanism which is on the end of the handle shaft.

 I'm trying to get the lock cylinder out so I can get my handle assembly re-chromed. There is no pin hole on the stainless steel lock face, i.e. where the key enters. Another problem is that the key fits but doesn't turn the lock.

Looks like you picked up on an old thread. I assume you are talking about a '40 LaSalle or Cadillac. I'm not sure about that specific year but later ones in the 40s have a very small straight pin that goes through the shaft of the handle that holds the lock mechanism in. It can be removed with a small punch or even a nail.       Harry
