Hello,
Today I purchased a 1970 Cadillac Coupe Deville . I wanted  this car for a long time . I found this incredible car up in Sag Harbor New York .  A 37,000 mile original car with  the original paint Byzantine Gold , Black vinyl top with the original Black Leather interior  . The car was still wearing the  Bias ply tires and all four headlights were original T 3 . The Steering wheel is immaculate . I had this exact same car back in 1973 /1975  .When I took the car out for a test drive It brought back memories of the awesome power and driving experience  this car provides . I purchased the car from the original owners great grandson . The car has been in the same family since purchased new in 1970 . I feel very fortunate to own this wonderful car . I think  I will keep the car just the way it is for now .  The paint for the most part is ok with just a few blemishes. The Body is laser straight with zero dents.  The top looks perfect . The interior is Is black and looks like very good. The steering wheel is beautiful with zero  defects . The map light louvered grille has a few Louvers  missing   The chrome is ok showing it age in spots . There is something to be said about a beautiful car in the original condition .

Fantastic!

Absolutely keep it original.  "They're only original once" as they say.

Can you find me a '70 Eldo with the same colors and condition please?   ;)

Fantastic car.  I have a 1970 low mileage SDV with original paint and perfect original top too.  Wonderful cars.  I did replace all the rubber and go thru it mechanically to perfection.  Left the cosmetics alone.  Here is a picture of suspension restore.

Just out of curiosity Scott, why did you have to go through the suspension of a low mileage car?

Bill,

Congratulations and best of luck.

Thank you Ralph,
You know I loved my 57 Eldorado’s . This is more of a road car  that me and my wife will be comfortable taking 100 mile trip in .   The climate controlled air is a real upgrade . I had the exact same car back in 1973/75

Greg,

The upper control arm bushings were completely dry rotted, and about 50% of the rubber was gone.  Bought the car in 2012 with 32k miles, now it has 39k (almost 40k).  Since I dropped the springs, might as well do the entire front suspension, now it is good for the remainder of my ownership and looks new.

This low mileage 970 DVC was incredibly well preserved from a no rust perspective, but much of the rubber was gone.

I noticed that the upper control arm bushings on a lot of Cadillacs of this vintage did not last and have been replaced.  On the Eldorados they last much longer?-the design geometry probably.

It seems most of these low mileage originals are never highly optioned. I guess those who could afford the top of the line with all the options just used them up.

Steve are you referring to the lack of cruise control and tilt & tele? It does have the leather seats though.

Tires, the trunk tire is clearly a metric size and while is might be a bias ply, I cannot tell ir there is a R before the 15, those sizes didn't come about until at least the mid to late 70s.  And the single stripe white sidewall mark the other 4 as not the original bias plies as well.

That all said, it is a REAL NICE survivor. My 1970 Fleetwood's steering wheel didn't look that good even 35 years ago.

Edit:

Looks like the last 3 characters are B15. I had forgotten that way back, you could get metrics in bias ply.   They are probably between 35-45 years old. They could look fine, but I would either change them or get another set of period Cadillac wheels and put new tires on the new wheels.

Regards,
"Cadillac" Mike

Sweet! Welcome to the Super 70 Club, I just made that up.
Obviously a late production car given the missing radio grounds in the cowl and
the design of the top of the air filter.
