Hi, you have the same pic twice.

The spring looks like it might have come up through the center of the ts switch housing.

What is oic?

The switch housing fits tight against the post, and i didn't remove it.

It was a typo for pic, but you removed the duplicate. 

If you look at the diagram, the spring is lower and in line with the housing. could the spring just come on straight up through the hole, or is it a different spring. It might be the spring that pops up the wheel for the telescoping adjustment. My 68 and my 70s sprung up (away from the dash) when I unlocked the lever. That had to have been spring operated.
