The gas gauge on my '76 seems to be accurate but the needle bounces back & forth while driving. When I add 5 or 10 gallons to the tank it goes to full for awhile then back to where it should be then starts bouncing back & forth.

It has been sitting up for quite sometime & I just started driving it. I'm thinking after a few fill-ups & hitting the bumps on the road it might just fix it self...Any suggestions ?

Driving it may make a difference.   Could just be a sticky spot from where it sat for a long time.

I have had plenty of problems with gas pickups, they are down
in gasoline and the wiring in road crud.  You could have a loose
wire to the tank, but a loose rivet inside the tank could happen.
Fixing all this usually means pulling the tank, but do make sure
it is properly grounded.  good luck, Bruce Roe
