I found a pair of 331 valve covers with 2 center cover mounting studs instead of 4 holes. Anyone know more about them? Early or just on large series?

The valve (rocker arm) covers with 2 center cover mounting studs instead of 4 holes are used on early 1949 motors.  92,554 Cadillacs were built in '49, and the early type covers were used until motor number 31,718.

Do you have any idea on what number it started? How many engines did have them?

All 1949 motors from the first one until the 31,718th used the valve covers with 2 rocker arm cover mounting studs.  From motor number 31,719 until 92,554 they used the later cover with 4 bolt holes around the perimeter of the cover, as did all motors from 1950 and later.

Early 49 valve covers had silver lettering and striping, I think. Later ones had white.  But I don't know if that change coincided with the change from 2-bolt covers to 4-screw covers.
