Carpet type in a '72 Eldorado Convertible

G'day all,

As the heading says, I am trying to find out just what type of carpet was used in the 1972 Eldorado Convertibles, and would appreciate it is there is anyone out there with an untouched original car that can have a look and see what is in there car.

ACC says that the original carpet was Loop Pile, but in my own car, which appears to be original, the carpet is Cut Pile, as is the pieces at the bottom of the doors, trash container and rear quarter panel, BUT, these parts seem to have a shorter pile than the floor carpet.

I have to obtain replacement pieces of carpet for the back of the front seat bases, and nothing of any type of colour is available down here.   Lots of Browns, but nothing anywhere similar to what I need.

My car is coded as 483, which is Light Covert, and the carpet is supposed to be Dark Covert.

Would appreciate it if you could take some pictures of the carpet, and what is on the sides, and the back of the front seat base.   That is is there any difference in pile depth?

From the 1972 Cadillac data book, the carpet on all models except the Calais serie is Trianon & Tyrol quality. Who knows what that does means? Anyway, your carpet is the same style as in my '72 de Ville Coupe.

I see that you are missing the bright trim from the top of the Right quarter panel.

Is the small piece of carpet the same pile depth as the floor carpet?

It must be an optical illusion, all bright pieces are on the trim, I'm adding another picture.
I'll go this afternoon to my shop, I will check for you the various carpet pieces for the depth.

Must be an optical illusion, but looking at it again, I think I can see the trim piece is just reflecting the carpet below it.

Hopefully, by the time I get up in the morning, I should be able to see all the answers I need to know to make my decision.

ACC has a carpet that they call Essex, which has a deeper pile.

As promised, I went to my store room. On the litter container, the carpet is about 8 to 9mm thick. I removed a scuff plate to have "fresh" carpet. Bad idea: the carpet is flattened by the scuff plate. Found an intact zone; it's also about 8 or 9 mm. In my opinion, the factory used the same material.

The thickness of the main carpet in my '72 is 12 to 13mm, and the trash container and other vertical surfaces is like yours, 8 to 9mm.

So, it looks like the main carpet is the Essex Pile, and the vertical surfaces, normal Cut Pile.
